Driving growth, building relationships, and helping clients realise long-term value

At Lánluas, our people are what set us apart. In this edition of Life Behind the Screens, we sit down with Matt Lucarelli to explore his career journey, what drives him, and how he helps clients get the most from their TechnologyOne systems.

Matt’s path into ERP consulting began with a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts, followed by internships that gave him early exposure to the corporate world. He then spent seven years at IBM, building a strong foundation in technology and client engagement, before moving to Experion, where he was first introduced to TechnologyOne. When Lánluas was founded, Matt became the company’s first hire in Victoria and, nearly a decade on, remains one of the region’s longest-serving team members.

Matt is now Regional Client Director, leading growth across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. His role spans the full client lifecycle, from identifying new opportunities through to onboarding, account management and expansion, with a strong focus on helping clients continue to evolve and realise long-term value.

It’s not about winning new business; it’s about helping clients continue to evolve and get real value over time from their TechnologyOne system.

His days start early, usually with a few coffees by 8am, before moving into a mix of prospecting, client calls, virtual and in-person meetings, and managing tenders and deadlines. At its core, the role is about building relationships and delivering outcomes, whether that’s closing new business or helping clients solve complex challenges and get more from their ERP systems. For Matt, being a trusted advisor means understanding each client’s business and supporting them not just through implementation, but throughout their ongoing journey.

One of the most common challenges he sees is what happens after go-live. While organisations often focus heavily on implementation, ongoing support, user adoption and addressing backlogs can be overlooked. Matt sees continuous improvement as a key opportunity area, helping clients shift their mindset from project completion to long-term optimisation.

Go-live is just the beginning, the real value comes from what happens next.

Matt embraces the flexibility of remote working while staying intentional about connection. Whether virtual or in-person, he focuses on building strong, lasting relationships with both clients and colleagues.

Mentorship has also played an important role in shaping his approach. Earlier in his career at Lánluas, Matt benefited from an external mentor, and that experience has influenced how he now supports others. He places importance on guiding newer team members and contributing to a strong team culture. He also sees good leadership as critical in helping people develop and perform at their best.

On those more challenging days, Matt stays motivated by the impact of his work and the difference he makes for clients. In this fast-moving environment, he’s known for his energy, resilience and ability to adapt.

Outside of work, Matt has a strong musical background. He has played drums for years, performed in a church band and was once a vocalist in a high school band, having also taken lessons in singing, drums and piano. These days, his spare time is more likely to be spent on the golf course, where he plays off a handicap of 10, although he admits it was lower before kids. If given the chance to step into someone else’s shoes for a day, professional golfer Ricky Fowler would be high on the list.

For those starting out in consulting or sales, Matt’s advice is to focus on building relationships, staying adaptable and seeking out mentorship wherever possible. Technical skills matter, but understanding people, businesses and how to deliver value is what ultimately makes the difference.
